We recently added to our list of suppliers a new brand that comes to provide us with a new way to perform our measurements and tests for our projects at a very professional level. We are talking about Digilent: an American company that is part of the National Instruments family.
Digilent is a company created in 2000 that has always offered complete and flexible hardware and software solutions to engineers, researchers and scientists so they can design and test their systems and machines in a fast and customizable way. They offer a large portfolio of products for measurement, test and electronic development that goes beyond what we normally find in the market. And we will not only talk about what they sell, but how they present it and what differentiates them from other brands.
Products for electronic test and measurement laboratories
One of the most outstanding categories of this manufacturer are the solutions they offer for the measurement of analog and digital processes and signals. They themselves categorize it as Test and Measurement Devices, and it includes a series of families that have a peculiarity and advantage over the classic electronic measurement equipment: their portability and compact design.
The Analog Discovery 3 series is the head of this category and brings us a great list of amazing features. From my experience and knowledge researching the brand over the past few weeks, I can say that I am amazed with the power and accessibility that this device offers. The Analog Discovery 3 is an all-in-one device: it has a digital oscilloscope function, logic analyzer, function generator, pattern generator and can be used as a programmable source for use in digital circuit projects. In short, this is a device that gives us the complete arsenal we need to do our electronic testing.
Also, within the measurement and test equipment we can find solutions such as the Digital Discovery, which is an integral device that can be used to test digital and embedded systems. It has functions such as logic analyzer, protocol analyzer and pattern generator, and is also compatible with Waveforms software.
Continuing with the electronic measuring and testing devices, the manufacturer also offers the high-end line for the analysis and measurement of electrical signals: Analog Discovery PRO Line.
Although Digilent focuses on launching affordable products for education and small labs, they also have at their disposal the Analog Discovery PRO series for professional and industrial high-performance applications, more robust and with more input and output channels.
Waveforms: digital instrumentation software
All of the above families of measuring instruments are designed to be used with their included Waveforms software, a versatile tool for using Digilent devices on a computer in an easy, fast and comprehensive way.
The software supports Analog Discovery 3, Analog Discovery Pro, Analog Discovery 2, Analog Discovery Studio and Digital Discovery. It has full support for Windows, MAC OS and Linux. It has tool functions for oscilloscope, function generator, power supply, voltmeter, logic and pattern analyzer, spectrum analyzer, network analyzer, among other tools. It also has compatibility for use with Labview.
