How is an AMR composed internally? – Logicbus-Technical information about industrial equipment
Wed. May 8th, 2024

An AMR transport unit is essential in the logistics and storage industry, enabling automated operations and reducing business expenses. However, it is crucial to pay attention to the components that make up the cobot hardware to ensure its utility.

Here we will explore what typical parts we can find inside AMR robots.

IPC (Industrial Personal Computer)

This industrial component has important computing attributes and characteristics such as the motherboard, CPU, hard drive, memory, peripherals, and interfaces, as well as an operating system, among others.

Its storage system is mainly used to monitor and control the machinery and equipment used in the production process.

LiDAR

Short for “Laser Imaging Detection and Ranging,” it is used for mapping and navigation of mobile robots. Navigation here refers to natural navigation, which is different from traditional tracking and guided robots.

AMRs do not “find” tracks and do not need to read QR codes and other environmental calibrations to build the map, only through LiDAR.

IMU (Inertial Measurement Unit)

The IMU is a specific type of sensor that measures angular velocity, force, and sometimes magnetic fields. There are many different types of IMUs, each of which contains various measurement tools related to a specific purpose.

In some scenarios, the map is very empty and exceeds the LiDAR’s scanning distance. At that moment, the data output from the laser navigation system will be interrupted.

Servomotor

The motor is an electromagnetic device that converts electrical energy into mechanical energy. The main function of the motor is to generate torque.

As a power source for electrical appliances or various machines, the main function of the generator is to convert mechanical energy into electrical energy.

Servomotor driver

Its function is similar to that of a frequency converter that acts on ordinary AC motors.

It is part of the servo system and is mainly used in high-precision positioning systems.

Generally, the servomotor is controlled through three methods of position, speed, and torque to achieve high-precision positioning of the transmission system.

Speed reducer

The function of the reducer is to slow down, and its main object of deceleration is the motor. Whether it is a servomotor or a stepper motor, it has the same effect because in many practical motor occasions, it is difficult to fully utilize the motor’s rated speed.

Because this involves many other functional requirements and adaptation principles, we will reduce the motor speed, and it is a very common practice to reduce the motor speed through a reducer.

Ethernet Switch / MOXA

The red brand is the MOXA module, which provides a series of industrial Ethernet switches with industrial-grade reliability, network redundancy, enhanced security, easy management, and high-cost performance.

The yellow brand is the Ethernet Switch.

This network device is used for forwarding electrical signals. It can provide an exclusive electrical signal path for any two network nodes connected to the switch.

PLC

The PLC is an electronic device specially designed for digital operation in an industrial environment.

It uses memory that can be programmed to store instructions for performing operations such as logical operations, sequential operations, timing, counting, and arithmetic operations.

Ethernet Switch / MOXA

The battery is a power conversion and storage device. It is the power source of the robot.

The electrical energy from the battery is converted into kinetic energy so that the robot can move.

Scrolling and universal wheel

The yellow brands are drive wheels used to rotate the shaft. It is used in many mechanical equipment and is the driving end of power.

The red brands are universal wheels. The universal wheel is a mobile drive wheel, and its structure allows for 360-degree horizontal rotation. It adjusts the direction and assists the drive wheel.

Bumper

The bumper is installed on the edge of the AMR to prevent scratches or impacts with foreign objects and play a protective role.

The anti-collision band is connected to the AMR’s emergency stop.

From the power of the servomotors to the intelligence of LiDAR and the monitoring of the IPC, each internal component of an AMR works in harmony to offer cutting-edge industrial automation. With this knowledge, you are ready to delve into the exciting world of autonomous robotics.
