Power electronics have gained importance in recent years. The right test equipment technology plays a critical role in the development and optimization of modern designs. Power supplies are part of the standard equipment in the laboratory and in production.

In order to cover applications that demand more power, Siglent introduces a new series of switching power supplies with a maximum output power of 1080 watts. The versatile new SPS5000X series offers high power density, lower weight and a wide power range.

The SIGLENT SPS5000X series

The SIGLENT SPS5000X series are powerful and flexible DC power supplies with excellent load control properties. The correct model can be selected from ten different voltage and current combinations to suit application requirements. In addition to single channel devices, there are 2 and 3 channel models to choose from. The series is divided into three performance classes of 360, 720 and 1080 W.

The maximum output current can be up to 90 A, the maximum output voltage 160 V. A special feature of the power supply units is a parallel mode which can deliver the maximum output power up to 3240W.

All models are equipped with a bright and easy-to-read 2.4-inch OLED screen. The embedded web server allows you to quickly and easily configure the devices via the web interface, without the need to install any software.

The SPS5000X Series is more flexible than conventional power supplies, whose output power curve is typically rectangular and whose maximum power is limited by voltage or current settings. Siglent’s new power supply can automatically adjust the voltage and current output in constant power mode.

With this it covers a larger output range. Built-in list function supports up to 50 individual steps for sequential output of current or voltage patterns. In addition to dwell time and slope, each step can also be programmed with a user-defined power-on delay. Lists can be created in the control panel, in the web interface or by importing list sequence files in CSV format (USB storage device, web interface).

Other functions

There is also a priority mode for current and voltage. In “current mode”, possible inrush current surges are limited to protecting the test object. In “voltage mode” the priority is to reach the configured output voltage as quickly as possible. Another very useful feature is the device’s adjustable output resistance.

If the device is used to test battery-powered products, it can be used to examine the behavior of the device under test as it ages or when different types of batteries are used.

In addition to the common protection modes, such as overvoltage, overcurrent, overtemperature, and maximum power limit, an internal discharge circuit has been implemented as an additional safety function. With this, all the remaining charge on the output is discharged through an internal capacitance in a defined way. This feature can also be used to speed up this process in the event of a step down of the output voltages.

In short, the new series of switch-mode power supplies stands out for its wide output power range, versatile and flexible output capabilities, as well as its simple and intuitive user interface. The characteristic value of SIGLENT completes this new series very well.
