What is an autoclave

They are metal containers, which close hermetically and work with steam at high pressure and high temperature inside, which allows us to sterilize everything from medical and pharmaceutical instruments, to food and all kinds of perishables.

An autoclave is basically made up of a rigid and hermetic chamber that includes a door with safety devices to allow the objects to be sterilized to be inserted. This chamber has attached devices for measuring pressure and temperature and heating elements to keep it warm. Autoclaves require a certain time from the moment they are connected to the network in order to be thermally prepared for the cycles.

Autoclave industrial applications

Autoclaves for their purpose of sterilization, allows us to be used with great potential in a large part of the industries

In the food and beverage industry, they are usually used for the sterilization of preserves and canned foods, which require that they be treated at temperatures greater than 100 ° Celsius.

This with the purpose of annihilation and reduction of microorganisms.

Microbes produce toxins or fermentation, reducing these microorganisms can extend the shelf life of perishables by months or even years.

In the tire industry, these are used for the vulcanizing process of tires and in the construction industry, for the special treatment of wood and materials used outdoors in order to exterminate the microorganisms that could affect, and thus prolong its useful life.

Adequate temperature control

When we talk about sterilizing food or pharmaceuticals, monitoring and controlling the applied temperature is a totally necessary action since not applying the required temperatures or pressures accurately could affect the final product in an infinite number of ways.

Our recommendation

We recommend using ultra-high temperature data loggers that are resistant to harsh environments such as those inside an autoclave, such as Madgetech’s well-known HiTemp140. See here.

It is specially built to carry out its temperature monitoring work in autoclaves, since it is especially submersible, with high precision for a temperature range of up to 140 ° C. It has a rigid external probe capable of measuring temperatures of up to 260 ° C, to choose options for probe dimensions.
