Optimizing the Cold Chain: Discover How to Maximize the Use of Data Loggers
Tue. May 21st, 2024

Numerous medicines, such as vaccines and biological preparations, require rigorous temperature control from their departure from laboratories to their administration.

The standard temperatures for the transport and storage of perishable drugs are typically -20 ºC for frozen, between 2 and 8 ºC for refrigeration, and some at temperatures close to the ambient of 20 ºC. The most commonly used temperature range is undoubtedly that of refrigeration. Any point at risk within the cold chain could compromise the quality and safety of products, becoming a potential entry for the development of pathogenic microorganisms, which are inhibited by low temperatures.

To ensure the success of this chain, three key factors must be considered:

  • -Transport of products in specialized vehicles.
  • -Storage in refrigerated chambers and warehouses.
  • -Distribution platform.

During this journey, it is crucial to maintain constant temperature monitoring, for which technical and technological resources are needed. It is essential for personnel to have specialized tools in a warehouse equipped with refrigerated chambers and freezers in optimal conditions, specialized vehicles, and recording systems. Data loggers are extremely useful and valuable tools in this process.

Data loggers are portable information recording devices, making them very practical. They are equipped with microprocessors and internal memory to collect and store data, such as temperature and humidity. They have the ability to record a considerable amount of data over an extended period, allowing the creation of detailed long-term records.

A novel solution we have is the new LynxPro Series data loggers with Bluetooth communication, providing you with the ability to monitor key functions. There are 3 models:

  • LynxPro: Temperature range from -20 °C to +60 °C (-4 °F to +140 °F)
  • -LynxPro-RTD: Temperature range from -100 °C to +200 °C (-148 °F to +392 °F)
  • -LynxPro-RH: For temperatures from -20 °C to +60 °C (-4 °F to +140 °F) and humidity from 0 %RH to +95 %RH.

The reason why this series of recorders is useful for cold chain control is the ease with which data can be monitored. In addition to having Bluetooth communication, these devices provide access to the Madge Tech app, a mobile application designed by the manufacturer that allows:

  • -Graphical and tabular representation of information.
  • -Complete control of devices and their functions.
  • -To export and send data through the application.
  • -Setting up custom alarms and notifications.

The LynxPro series makes it possible for carriers, manufacturers, and points of sale to review not only the current temperature but the complete history of each batch in a simple way through a mobile application, allowing the scheduling of high and low temperature limits. If at any time the temperature exceeds or reaches the limits, an alarm is instantly activated, and a report is generated.

Other factors to consider with the MadgeTech LynxPro line:

  • -The maximum distance between the mobile phone and the logger is 6 meters (20 feet), to ensure the data transmission via Bluetooth.
  • -It comes with MadgeTech 4 software for advanced analysis, automatic MKT calculations, data annotations, and multiple chart overlays.
  • -Memory: 131,071 total readings or 21,845 readings using multiple start and stop modes.
  • -Reading rate: 1 reading every second up to 1 reading every 24 hours.

A very user-friendly tool for precise temperature and humidity control.
